Who writes this and how

About this diary

Lake Winnipeg Getaway is an independent guide to one hotel and the beaches up the road from it. It started in 2026. It is written in the first person because one editor writes it, and it says so when it does not know something.

What the site is

A guide to South Beach Casino & Resort for people who want a night or two near Lake Winnipeg: the rooms, the pool, the food, the evenings, the beaches, the drive. And a booking desk that answers room requests. It is not the resort's website, it is not run by the resort or its owners, and it does not speak for them.

How it is written

  1. Sources first

Every page lists the pages it was built from, with the date they were read. The resort's own site is the first source; then the Province of Manitoba, Shared Health, Travel Manitoba, the municipalities; Wikipedia only when nothing better exists, marked as secondary.

  2. Contradictions shown

The resort's pages disagree with each other on a few things, such as the number of gaming machines and the name of the ballroom. Where they do, I print both and say which I follow.

  3. No invented guests

There are no made-up reviews, personas or quotes here. The only first-hand description of a stay I quote is a signed article on Travel Manitoba's site, credited each time.

  4. No pretend visits

I have not stayed at the resort for this guide. The diary is a planning diary: dates are when I read and wrote, or calendar dates from the sources.

  5. Illustrations

The pictures are illustrations made for this site and labelled that way. They are not photographs of the resort and should not be read as one.

Corrections

Prices, hours and calendars change. If something here is out of date or wrong, write to hello@lakewinnipeggetaway.com with the page and, ideally, the source, and I will fix it and note the date.

The small print

The domain was registered through Namecheap, Inc. on 31 October 2026. The site is hosted on DigitalOcean in Toronto, Canada, and served through Cloudflare. There is no publisher company behind it to name. How bookings pay us explains the money, and the terms explain the rest.
