A planning log for an organiser
- Month before
Send the resort's inquiry form, linked from its meetings page, for the room itself. Our desk can handle the bedrooms for your group at the same time if you write the head count and dates on a postcard.
- Menu
Breakfast, lunch and dinner can be buffet or plated, with a coffee and refreshment menu. The resort says its executive chef can build custom menus from regional ingredients.
- Rooms
Ninety-three rooms in total. A group of 60 staying over would take a large share of the hotel, so a summer Saturday is the hardest date to get. Midweek is easier on paper.
- On the day
Breakout sessions in the Sweetgrass and Sage rooms; the executive session in the Cedar Room with its screen and cameras.
One ballroom or two names?
The meetings page calls the big room the Mother Earth Ballroom. The concert pages put the shows in the "South Beach Grand Ballroom". I could not confirm from the resort's pages whether these are one room under two names. If it matters for your event, for example to avoid a concert night, ask the resort for its event calendar before you sign.
Weddings
The resort's meetings page talks about events of every kind but does not publish a wedding package. Capacity, catering and the Grand Suites make a reception and a wedding night possible. I would ask the resort directly for a quote and ask our desk to hold a block of rooms for guests once the date is fixed.
Coach groups and bus tours
South Beach runs day tours and overnight tours with outside coach operators. For day trips from Winnipeg, the resort lists Anytime Travel & Tours, Dynasty Tours, Osper Travel, Progressive Tours, Triple J Tours and Winnipeg River Charter. For overnight tours it lists Paradigm Charter from Brandon, Portage la Prairie, Neepawa and Minnedosa, several Saskatchewan operators, and Shirley's Tours from Kenora. The resort's tour bus coordinator is on 1-204-766-3112. The Palms Buffet is reserved for bus tours from Monday to Wednesday, which tells you how much of the midweek trade comes by coach.
Our desk deals with bedrooms only. Event space, catering contracts and coach tours are arranged directly with the resort or the coach operators.
