Five types, ninety-three keys

Rooms and suites at South Beach

The hotel has 93 rooms in five types. Three are 380 sq ft, two are suites of about twice that size. Here is the whole list on one page, then a page for each type.

Notes before you choose

  1. Arrival, 4 p.m.

Official check-in time. The rooms page adds that rooms are not guaranteed to be ready until 6 p.m. If you arrive from the beach at four with wet towels, ask at the desk where to wait, and keep the pool bag handy.

  2. Arrival, 6 p.m.

The time the resort actually guarantees your room. I would plan supper at Mango's around seven, not earlier, on a busy Saturday.

  3. Morning

Every Deluxe room has a coffeemaker with free coffee and tea. The Luxury King and both suites get a Keurig instead, plus bathrobes and bottled water. The lobby café is open 24 hours if you want a muffin to take down to the car.

  4. Noon, last day

Check-out. The resort's packages come with a 1 p.m. late check-out, which is one practical reason to look at them.

Which room for which trip

Two adults, one night after the beach: a Deluxe King. It is the same size as the Luxury King, and the difference is mostly in the extras: pillow-top bed in both, but the Luxury room adds the Keurig, bathrobes and bottled water.

Family of four: a Deluxe Queen if the children are small, the Junior Suite if they are not. The Junior Suite is the only room with two queens in a separate bedroom and a sofa bed in a parlour, which means a door between the adults and everyone else.

A celebration or a longer stay: the Grand Suite. At 780 sq ft it has a sitting room, a pantry with a sink and a fridge, two televisions and a whirlpool tub. Travel Manitoba's writer described hers as a corner suite with large windows.

I list rates only because the resort publishes them. They are starting prices, without the dates or taxes they apply to, and our desk will quote the real figure for your nights.

What every room has

Across all five types the resort lists a flat-screen television, a work desk and free high-speed internet. The Deluxe rooms add a duvet, a hairdryer and an iron with a board. None of the room descriptions mention a balcony, a lake view or a bathtub outside the Grand Suite, so I assume none of those unless the desk confirms otherwise.
