My verdict in five dated notes
- Reading the size
Ninety-three rooms is a small hotel. That cuts both ways: fewer corridors and less walking, but fewer rooms to go round on a summer Saturday or a concert night. Book early for July weekends.
- Reading the location
Highway 59 is the road to Patricia Beach, Grand Beach and Victoria Beach. Patricia Beach Provincial Park is 84 km north of Winnipeg; the Grand Beach turn-off is at 80 km. The resort is on the same road, closer to the city, which is why I like it as the overnight stop.
- Reading the rooms
Standard rooms are a generous 380 sq ft with pillow-top beds, a mini-fridge and a coffeemaker. Nothing on the official page suggests balconies or lake views, and I would not count on either. The suites are where the space is.
- Reading the evenings
The Blue Dolphin has free live music on Friday and Saturday nights and stays open until 2 a.m. The ballroom concert series brings tribute acts a few times a season. For a beach weekend, that is enough to fill one evening.
- Reading the small print
No pets. Check-in from 4 p.m., but the resort warns rooms may not be ready until 6 p.m. Check-out at noon. Packages require the resort's free membership card. I would plan the beach before check-in rather than after.
Book it if
- You want Grand Beach or Patricia Beach in the day and a pool, a meal and a bed at night without driving back to Winnipeg.
- You travel with children who will spend an hour in shallow water before supper. The pool is family-friendly until 10 p.m.
- You are coming for a ballroom concert or a weekend band at the Blue Dolphin and want to walk to your room afterwards.
- You golf: the resort sells room packages with a round at Granite Hills, Grand Pines or Mars Sandhills.
- You are organising a meeting for up to 300 people outside the city, or a boardroom session for up to 17 with a large video-conference screen.
Think twice if
- You want a lake view from bed. The resort is on the highway, not on the shore, and does not promise water views.
- You travel with a dog. The resort's rooms page says no pets, without exceptions listed.
- You want a big resort with several restaurants. There is Mango's, the Blue Dolphin, a weekend buffet and a 24-hour café. That is the list.
- You need certainty about arrival time. Rooms are not guaranteed until 6 p.m., two hours after the official check-in.
- A casino in the building bothers you. It is smoke-free and separate from the pool and rooms, but it is the reason the hotel exists.

What I could not check
The resort does not publish guest parking terms, the floor of its Executive rooms, a breakfast-included rate, or details of accessible rooms. I left all of these out rather than guess. If any of them decides your booking, write it on the postcard and the desk will ask the resort before quoting anything.
One more honest note: the public score I saw on Google, 4.2 out of 5, came without a visible number of reviews. I explain what I could and could not see on the ratings page.
