The standard room with one big bed

Deluxe King: the couple's overnight

The same 380 sq ft as the Deluxe Queen, with one king bed instead of two queens. If two of you are driving up for a band at the Blue Dolphin or an early start at Grand Beach, this is the room I would ask for first.

A Friday in four notes

  1. Fri, 5 p.m.

Leave Winnipeg after work. The resort says thirty minutes north on Highway 59; Wikipedia gives about an hour from the city. Friday traffic out of town will decide which one is true for you.

  2. Fri, 7 p.m.

Supper at Mango's, which serves until 9 p.m. Travel Manitoba's writer recommended going outside peak times to avoid a wait.

  3. Fri, 9 p.m.

Whichever band the Blue Dolphin has booked. Live music there is free, and the lounge kitchen serves until 1 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.

  4. Sat, 9 a.m.

Coffee in the room, then north to the beaches before the car parks fill. Patricia Beach, at 84 km from Winnipeg by the province's count, is the nearer of the two park beaches up the highway.

Deluxe King or Luxury King?

Both are 380 sq ft with one king pillow-top bed. The Luxury King is on the Executive floor and adds a Keurig, bathrobes, bottled water and upgraded bathroom amenities, for a starting rate that was only $5 higher when I checked. The Deluxe King has the iron and the hairdryer listed; the Luxury description does not mention them, which probably says more about how the page was written than about the room. Ask if it matters.
